Earth Day 2013

This has been a spring slow to come. Earth day last year was a riot of dandelions and blossom. This year I have only just found the first dandelion in the garden, and the blackthorn blossom is nowhere to be seen in our little valley.
We have had a few days of warmth, but the wind is still sighing 'winter'.
It seems like a revisitation of Rachel Carson's 'Silent Spring', the book that was the inspiration for the first Earth Day in 1970.
As our government 'ums' and 'ers' about banning neonicotinoids because of the danger to bees - have we learned anything?
Our earth is precious, as are all it's inhabitants.

There may be lovelier worlds than this,
a heavenly country, vast and fair,
Where saints and seraphs dwell in bliss
—I do not know—I do not care.
While in my human flesh I live
I ask no more than earth can give.
